Miss Trixx's Anal Sex Toy Buyers Guide

A great guide to the world of anal sex toys

Anal Sex Toy Buyer's Guide With all the submissives coming through my dungeon lately, I have seen a lot of sex toy play.  The most popular trend with my clients seems to be anal sex toys with all types of different contraptions.  Since this is becoming so popular, I thought I would take the opportunity to throw a little something together for all our readers on my experience with various different anal sex toys that have come through my doors.

Types of Anal Sex Toys

There are many different types of anal sex toys, however the most popular fall into the following categories:

Butt Plugs - these usually consist of a flat base with an oblong head attached to it that is tapered on one end for starting the insertion and getting wider towards the base.  The butt plug usually tapers in right near the flat base so that the sphincter can close in around the plug.  The flat base is designed so that butt plug does not get lost inside of its recipient.  It also provides a convenient handle for extracting this sex toy.  The butt plug and variations on it are probably one of the most popular sex toys in existence.  They come in various sizes from finger small all the way up to XL monsters that only the most experienced and dedicated anal sex toy players could hope to take.

Dongs – these come in various shapes and sizes.  They are pretty much identical to phallic vibrators without the vibration option.  They can be penis shaped or more generic like a shaft with a rounded end.  Unlike the butt plug, dongs do not usually have a flat tapered base.  When playing with dongs it is important to be careful such that you do not insert it too far and lose the toy in the anal cavity.

Vibrators – these come in various shapes and sizes.  Primarily designed for vaginal play, they can be used for anal antics.  Whether going with a vibrating egg on a string or a good old Jack Rabbit, vibrators can provide plenty of anal stimulation.  For extra pleasure get one with a set of rotating beads or pearls and place this section right on the sphincter and feel it wriggle.

Batons, Bats – just like it sounds there are specially designed bats and shafts out there that can be used with sex play.  I have seen these sculpted out of hard-wood just like a real baseball bat.  I have also seen ones that look identical to something the local police might carry at their side.  Some extreme anal players even take on full-size baseball bats, but I wouldn’t recommend this unless you are seriously experienced.

Beads – whether attached to a string or a one-piece molded wand, beads can be a lot of fun.  They provide similar stimulation to butt plugs, but they differ in that there are usually multiple beads to a sex toy and that each one can be inserted and removed in sequence to give a repeat stretch.  The nice thing about beads on a string is that once they are inserted the string itself provides a much lighter level of stimulation then would a butt plug base.  When playing with beads, just make sure that you do it slowly so that you can savor ever second and avoid any damage (especially with a quick withdrawal).

Dual Stimulators – think of these as two dongs attached together at the base but pointed in the same direction.  One (usually the larger) of the two is designed to be inserted vaginally while the smaller one is destined for the anus.  You can get these with and without vibration options.

Inflatable – this is a relatively new class of toy and combines a bit of the functions of other sex toys.  The ones that I have seen or used usually have a pump of some type and have a couple of expansion chambers.  By squeezing the pump, the chambers expand to give a better stretch and fill you up.  The inflatable anal sex toys that I have seen are pretty tough and durable, but I still hesitate about thinking of contents under pressure anywhere inside me.

Materials

With so many different types of anal sex toys available there are almost as many different types of materials available.  Each material has a different feel and will perform a little different for you.  Some of the sex toy materials that I have come to know through my years of experience are:

Various Anal Toy Materials
Glass

This is about the hardest material that you will come across for an anal sex toy.  Glass has no give and is unforgiving if you aren’t properly aroused.  It does have a couple of nice benefits in that it can have very pretty designs with multiple colors and it is very easy to clean up.  Just throw it in your dishwasher and it will be as good as new.
Silicone

This is probably one of the best and most expensive of the synthetic materials available.  Silicone can be molded in various designs and has some give to it.  It is definitely flexible and can be cleaned in your dishwasher.

Rubber

One of the most common materials used in sex toys.  Rubber is very flexible and has a decent amount of give.  I don’t recommend washing rubber in your washing machine, but giving it a quick clean with some sex toy cleaner and a rinse usually is sufficient to wash it up.
Jelly

Kind of an off-shoot of rubber, jelly is very flexible and probably has the most give of any sex toy material.  It is probably one of the most beginner friendly materials available in terms of not over-stretching your sphincter.  With all that give and flexibility comes a down-side and that is porosity.  You need to be careful with jelly sex toys and make sure that you give them a good cleaning with a serious anti-bacterial agent.  Most jelly sex toys will not survive a run through your dishwasher so stick to hand-washing.

Plastic

Like many kid toys out there, anal sex toys also come in plastic.  This is a hard and inexpensive material.  It can come in just about any color imaginable and just about any shape.  I stick to hand washing my plastic toys as some will melt in your dishwasher – especially during the drying cycle.
Metal

Whether exotic metals (gold-plated) or surgical stainless steel, anal sex toys can now be found in your favorite metallic hue.  One thing I don’t like about metal is that it can feel cold next to my skin and cold metal causes the sphincter to contract.  If you are going to use metal toys, make sure that you warm them up by running them under warm water.  Clean up is a snap and these can often be thrown in your dishwasher.  Metal sex toys are probably some of the most durable that you will find up there with glass, but not as pretty in my opinion.

Wood

Yes some toys are made out of wood.  Wooden anal sex toys usually are bats and batons and are usually heavily coated to protect the wood from moisture and other organic material.  Although some of the wooden sex toys are very pretty, part of me shivers at the thought of getting a splinter.

Lubrication

Make sure that you have good lubrication when using anal sex toys.  Your anal tract is designed to expel soft material and not receive material, so anal play is something you need to do very carefully.  Going too quickly or going too large is asking for trouble and since your sphincter is a muscle it can be permanently damaged if not taken care of.  Make sure all your anal sex toys are well lubricated.  Remember easy in, easy out and relax.  We have plenty of reviews of good lubricants that can help make your anal sex play a pleasure.

Clean-Up

Part of my consideration when buying an anal sex toy is how easy it is to clean-up.  I think that is why glass is one of my most favorite materials.  It is non-porous and dishwasher safe so I know I can get it clean.  Also if I go with a clear glass it is easy to spot anything that I may have missed.  For the more flexible materials, I prefer silicone as it can be placed in the dishwasher or boiling water and given a through cleaning.  Whatever you choose make sure that you hit it with some good anti-bacterial agent and never go from anal to vaginal with the same sex toy without cleaning it.

Safety

Anal play can induce a lot of pleasure, but it can also lead to serious problems.  Some of the biggest problems that people face when playing with anal sex toys is that they can stretch or tear the sphincter or the lining of their rectum.  Make sure you play safe and take it slow.  Also make sure that you have a good grip on your anal sex toy at all times as you don’t want to lose it inside your rectum and have to make a trip to the emergency ward to get it released (they will most likely inject your sphincter with a muscle relaxant to expunge your contents).  Lubrication is a must as is proper hygiene for your sex toys.  Remember once you go anal with a sex toy make sure it is spotlessly clean before even contemplating going vaginal with it.  I like to keep mine completely separate with vaginal sex toys and anal sex toys only going in their designated orifices.
