Darlings, I know from the emails that I receive from you that many of you need help picking the right adult board game from the sea of games available online and at the mall. You know I’ll make any excuse to shop! Sex-related board games form an adult toy category unto themselves. There are many good and bad ones available and they range from the quick and easy to the ones that take longer to play and are more complex to learn.
In these fabulous modern times we live in with high definition television, digital video recorders, and DVDs, why do we turn to board games? Because they’re a blast! When you and your partner have tired of the typical ways to generate that special spark that leads to great sex (romantic dinners, jewelry (did I say that!??!), adult DVDs, massages, hot tubbing, wine by the fireplace, and so on) these games offer a low-cost, fun alternative. They can also serve as ice-breakers for parties, particularly for you swingers out there.
In my search for games to review for SiliconSlave, I came across Sex Drive™ by Silver Summit Games. Initially what caught my eye was the packaging – It’s basic black... like a little black dress of a box. Trust me on this ladies – unlike some of the other games, you will not be embarrassed to be seen carrying this one from the store. The image of the game board on the back of the box is very cute and hints at the potential for fun with the game.
Another aspect of the game that grabbed my interest was the variety it offered. It incorporates charades, sketching, sculpting (yes sculpting... but not too messy!) and sex-related trivia questions that each player answers. Other games often have one or two of these elements, not the four offered by Sex Drive. There are a lot of things to do with this game, and that is appealing if you tend to get bored easily like I do (or suffer from A.D.D.).
The overall concept of this automotive-themed sex game involves moving your game piece (a car) around the board, landing on different squares that have you taking different actions depending on the position on the board. There are two tracks or courses: The Outer Course™ and The Inner Course™, each with four different categories. You start out on The Outer Course with a Libido Learning Permit after answering at least one of the four categories for that course.
After answering that initial category, you continue to travel around The Outer Course to earn a Sex Driver’s License™. You must successfully respond to the challenges from each of the four categories in order to secure your Sex Driver’s License™ and move to The Inner Course. The ultimate goal is to be the first to correctly respond to the four Inner Course categories.
When you land on a category square, you have the opportunity to answer a sex trivia question from the category card. While there are an amazing number of different sex-related questions covering the whole spectrum, some of the questions are too scientific or medical in nature. These questions do not help to “get you in the mood.” A couple of sample questions will illustrate my point:
Q. According to studies, one health benefit for women who masturbate is
A. Increased flow of mucus from the cervix into the vagina
Q. What is the equivalent of the prostrate gland in a female called?
A. Skene’s gland
Not all of the questions are this medical, but you should be aware that there are a good number of questions like these. Will these questions challenge you? Yes. Will these questions make you horny? Well, I’ll leave that for you to decide ladies. In fairness to the supplier, their web site FAQ states that their main goals with the game are to entertain, stimulate conversation, and educate, not titillate. So for consumers who take a little time to research their purchase, Silver Summit Games is up front about what their game is and is not.
When you answer a question correctly, you receive a category card for that category. Again, the objective is to earn a category card for all possible categories. The eight total categories (four inner courses and four outer courses, each with a different theme) are as follows:
The game board is well-designed and includes board positions that add elements of chance and randomness to the game play. Some positions have you missing a turn, re-rolling, jumping to other parts of the game board, or losing some of the category cards you’ve collected. These things really help to mix it up and make the game more interesting to play. There are also two Body Shop™ squares to land on, which I will explain next.
When you land on one of the Body Shops, you have 60 seconds to act out, sculpt, or draw the item on the Body Shop card. Within the 60 seconds, the opposing player (or team) has to guess your item. For example, you may be tasked with acting “Like You are Flossing Your Teeth”, drawing “A Penis Ring”, or sculpting “A Weiner Dog.” This aspect of the game is where the hilarity comes in. Trust me ladies, when you see your partner having “act like he is copping a feel in a movie theater” you will be rolling on the floor laughing as you try to guess it.
The game includes pretty pink sculpting play dough, an hourglass 60-second timer, pencil, paper, six game pieces, a 12-sided die, game board, and the various cards described earlier. The supplier’s web site provides a visual look inside the box on-screen so you can see everything that comes with the game. Instructions are presented on a 14” by 10” double-sided sheet of paper. I found the instructions easy to understand, although I would suggest familiarizing yourself with them before you consume too much champagne!
I thoroughly enjoyed playing Sex Drive, and I think most people would. My partner can’t draw to save his life, so I laughed and laughed when he had me trying to guess his little stick figures were “Adam and Eve.” I was a little put off by the overly scientific trivia questions, but the plusses of the game far outweigh this one negative area. Also, the fact that the trivia questions are less titillating and more factual makes it easier to play in a larger group, especially when some individuals might embarrass easily. Ladies, this one’s a winner.
The game comes in a standard version ($39.95) and a special collector’s limited edition ($59.95) and is for 2-6 players.
